Butch Calhoun serves as the Secretary of Agriculture for the State of Arkansas. Calhoun accepted the position on July 1, 2012. From 2007 to his appointment as Secretary of Agriculture, he served as the Director of the Department of Rural Services.
Prior to working in Arkansas State Government, Calhoun was elected to five terms as Prairie County Judge and served four terms in the Arkansas House of Representatives. He also served as Chairman of the Central Arkansas Solid Waste District and Vice-Chairman of Central Arkansas Planning and Development District.
Calhoun farmed for more than 30 years and now has his farm leased. Along with farming, he ran a small trucking company hauling mostly agricultural products. He served 11 years on a local agricultural bank board before the bank sold to a larger regional bank.
Calhoun resides in Des Arc and has four children and 9 grandchildren.
