The South Dakota Department of Agriculture (SDDA) is teaming up with South Dakota State University (SDSU) to host the first-ever Beginning Farmer and Rancher Symposium. The one-of-a-kind event will be held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, from 12-5 p.m. CST at the Student Union on the SDSU campus in Brookings. “The average age of a South Dakota farmer is over 57 years and climbing,” said South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture Walt Bones. “With continually rising input, land and machinery costs, it isn’t hard to figure out why this is. Creative solutions and dedicated resources are needed to help our next generation of agricultural producers and community leaders get started in this industry.” For more information, click here.
