The Farmer Veteran Coalition and Drake University Agricultural Law Center invite veterans interested in careers in farming to attend farm tours and workshops at the Organic Field School near Northfield, MN and Growing Power Farms in Milwaukee, WI. All veterans and service members interested in farming are encouraged to attend, as well as family members of veterans. Both events are free but seating is limited. Registration is open.
All registered participants will receive a free copy of the 300+ page book “Wholesale Success: A Farmer’s Guide to Food Safety, Selling, Postharvest Handling, and Packing Produce.” Workshops will cover the following topics: Food Safety & Post-Harvest Considerations, Composting and Soil Building, Strategic Planning and Farm Business Development, Product and Income Diversification, new Veteran Farmer Programs in the Farm Bill, and Using Government Programs for Whole Farm Success. Lunch will be provided and there will be many opportunities to meet and network with other veterans.
The Gardens of Eagen event in Northfield, MN event will take place on April 10 from 8:30 – 5:00 and features a tour of the farm and discussions with student farmers at the Organic Field School, followed by educational workshops at the Lakeville Public Library.
