International Trade and Promotion

Exports are important to the continued strength of American agriculture. The United States is now the world’s largest agricultural exporter. Nearly one-fourth of farm cash receipts are attributable to agricultural exports and one out of every three acres is planted for export.

While U. S. agriculture producers depend heavily on their access to export markets the U.S. economy is equally dependent on the export of U.S. agriculture goods. One-third of US agricultural production is exported annually and about one million American jobs are supported by these exports. Agriculture is one of the few economic sectors in the U.S. to consistently run a positive balance of trade.
