Wyoming June Area Survey Training Workshop (Cheyenne, Wyoming) May 18-20, 2010
The Wyoming NASS Field Office held a successful and productive workshop in Cheyenne, Wyoming on May 18-20, 2010 to prepare for the 2010 June Area Survey. Wyoming has two Field Supervisors and about a dozen Field Enumerators who cover a lot of territory!
The Wyoming NASS Field Office team of Director Todd Ballard, Deputy Director Steve Gunn, Survey Manager and Ag Statistician Ryan Skipper, and Ag Statistician & NASDA Coordinator Sofiya Cherni, did an outstanding job of coordinating the workshop activities. NASDA’s NASS Program Director Charlie Ingram participated in the workshop and worked with enumerators on the practice exercises.
The June Area survey is one of the largest annual NASS survey projects. It is designed to account for every acre of land, all agricultural activities, and land uses within segment boundaries. Data collected by NASDA enumerators on behalf of NASS include: crop acreage, grain stocks, livestock inventory (including cattle, hogs, sheep and poultry), land values, cash rents, farm numbers, and value of sales.
One of the highlights during the workshop was a Picnic held the evening of May 19 which included an awards ceremony to recognize the excellent work performed by NASDA supervisors and enumerators. Charlie also presented a special award to the NASS-NASDA team for winning the NASDA Voice newsletter contest.
The Wyoming Field Office is also home to one of the six NASS Data Call Centers across the Country. There are three NASDA Office Supervisors, two NASDA Coaches, and almost 50 phone enumerators who work here. Charlie Ingram had the opportunity to tour the operations and meet with NASDA employees on the evening of May 18 and the morning of May 19. Click here for Charlie's Changing Hats
