Job Opportunity -- Miller Announces Chief Economist Position Opening
News Date April 17, 2006
Indiana Agriculture Director Andy Miller is seeking candidates for a new position at the Indiana State Department of Agriculture focused on agricultural economic analysis, public policy and business development.
"As Indiana's agriculture industry continues to grow and develop, our Department is committed to leading and guiding our sector's growth with a focused, action-based strategic plan," said Miller. "Adding a chief economist to our already top-notch staff will provide ISDA with more information as we put into action the strategies and goals we have created."
ISDA's Chief Economist will oversee an ongoing assessment of the Department's strategic plan, Possibilities Unbound: The Plan for 2025. This includes a comprehensive review of each strategic plan area. For instance, the chief economist may look at how expanding pork production in Indiana will impact the bioenergy initiative to maximize our state's competitive advantage in agriculturally-derived energy.
The Chief Economist will also support and advise ISDA on the economic implications of various policy actions and programs that affect Indiana agriculture. Finally, the chief economist will support the ISDA Economic Development team as they work on key business projects.
"We are looking forward to hiring a highly-qualified individual who has a strong interest in Indiana agriculture and how our industry plays a vital role in the state and U.S. economy," said Miller.
ISDA is interested in interviewing candidates with a master's or doctorate degree in agricultural economics and some work experience is preferred. For more information or to apply for this position, contact ISDA's Deputy Director Beth Bechdol at 317/232-8770 or by email at bbechdol@isda.in.gov.
