Support for the Foot and Mouth Disease Prevention Act of 2008 July 17, 2008
While regionalization is a concept that NASDA supports in some instances for some diseases, NASDA is concerned that allowing importation from a sub-region where the disease has been prevalent and still exists in surrounding areas is unwise at this time. Dr. Sam Holland, South Dakota State Veterinarian – and current president of the national state veterinarians’ organization, an affiliate organization of NASDA – conducted an informal survey of state animal health authorities; the results were “an overwhelming majority of the state animal health authorities are opposed to regionalization of Argentina for FMD at this time.” NASDA supports the Foot and Mouth Disease Prevention Act of 2008.
