ND: GOEHRING PLANTS CORN FOR HUNGER-FREE GARDEN PROJECT

News Date: 06/15/2010

Every year, Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring plants field corn on his farm south of Menoken, but this year some of it is sweet corn.

About 1.5 acres of Goehring’s farm is seeded with the sweet corn as his contribution to the Hunger Free North Dakota Garden project.

“I’ m hoping for 24,000 ears of sweet corn,” Goehring said. “Of course, if the weather doesn’t cooperate, it may be less, but if everything goes right, it could be more.”

The corn will be harvested by the employees of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) and delivered to local feeding programs in late summer.
