A preliminary copy of an updated "State Survey on Waste and Manure Management Regulations" has been posted on NASDA's website at http://www.nasda.org. The original survey was completed in December 1998. This latest version reflects new information received since March 1, 2001, from states including Alabama, California, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Wisconsin.

If there are any corrections or updates needed on the information for your state, please forward comments by July 13th to Tom Sommer at NASDA by fax at (202) 296-9686, by phone at (202) 296-9680, or by email at tom@nasda-hq.org. The survey information can be found in the "What's New" section by scrolling down through the items listed under "Legislative Updates."

This survey data will be critical for NASDA's ongoing discussions with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials and in our written comments on the agency's proposed CAFO (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation) rules. NASDA also uses the survey to explain state activities and programs to other federal agencies, policymakers, agricultural and environmental organizations, and the media. It is very important that the information accurately reflects the programs related to livestock in your state that protect public health, livestock, and the environment.
