New Pesticide Chief Nominated

The White House announced on January 17 the nomination of James B. Gulliford to be assistant administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of Prevention, Pesticides, and Toxic Substances (OPPTS). Gulliford has been the EPA Region 7 administrator since September 2001and has 25 years of experience administering environmental programs in the agricultural and mining areas. He was previously the director of Iowa's Department of Soil Conservation. The pesticide office has been operating with an acting administrator since 2003 when Steve Johnson vacated the position to become EPA administrator. (Contact: Charlie Ingram)
