House Panel Reviews Crop Insurance
News Date March 20, 2006
The House Agriculture Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management held a hearing to review the federal crop insurance program. The hearing was intended to provide lawmakers with a general overview of current issues facing the crop insurance program including multiple-year losses, disaster assistance, premium reduction plan, and the upcoming farm bill reauthorization.
The hearing marked the first time USDA's Risk Management Agency (RMA) Administer Eldon Gould testified before the committee since assuming the position last year. The subcommittee also heard from representatives of the crop insurance industry. Producers have raised concerns about the crop insurance program during four earlier committee field hearings to review federal agriculture policy. Copies of the witness testimony are available on the committee website at http://agriculture.house.gov/hearings/index.html. (Contact: Charlie Ingram)
