White House Releases New Strategy For Homeland Security

News Date October 17, 2007

President Bush on October 10 issued an updated National Strategy for Homeland Security, which will serve to guide, organize, and unify the nation's homeland security efforts. The document updates the administration's first National Strategy for Homeland Security, which was issued in July 2002.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) emphasized the framework document is a national strategy, not a federal strategy, and articulates the administration's approach to secure the homeland over the next several years. According to the White House, the updated strategy reflects the increased understanding of the threats confronting the United States and incorporates lessons learned from exercises and real-world catastrophes.
