KEY DEMOCRAT DINGS OBAMA ON TRADE

The Obama administration came under fire last week from Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT), who lamented the administration’s lack of progress on the issue of trade policy. In a speech given to the Washington International Trade Association, Baucus criticized Obama’s failure to develop trade relations in the Pacific, emphasizing that more attention must be given to Asian countries other than China, which has been the recipient of the bulk of the administration’s efforts. A strong proponent of climate change legislation, Baucus said he supports a carbon tariff on goods imported from countries that do not make an effort to reduce green house gas emissions.
