MASDA 2006
July 22-July 24, 2006
Regional BioIndustry Pre-Conference, July 21st
Madison Concourse Hotel & Governor's Club ~ Madison, Wisconsin

Wisconsin welcomes you to the Annual Midwest Association of State Departments of Agriculture (MASDA) meeting, July 22nd to July 25th, in Madison. We are also hosting a special, one day pre-conference on July 21st focusing on regional BioIndustry partnerships. Plan to join us in Madison as the city celebrates its 150th birthday and hosts CowParade 2006!

The MASDA conference program will feature presentations and panels on topics such as preserving working lands, value added farming, agriculture transportation issues, the future of animal agriculture, and a look at key conservation issues associated with renewal of the Farm Bill. Featured speakers include Ralph Grossi, from American Farmland Trust; George Siemon, CEO of Organic Valley; and, Dr. Duane Acker, President Emeritus, Kansas State University. We'll also have reports from each of our Midwestern member states updating us on significant local events.

Staff from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and I are excited to extend our hospitality to you and your guests. We will treat you to a wide range of Wisconsin events, including the first ever MASDA cow chip throwing contest, polka dancing and alphorn blowing in historic New Glarus, entertainment by Wisconsin author and humorist Mike Perry, a kid's "Day at the Dells" featuring a waterpark and amusement center, and a special Badger Tailgate Picnic at Governor Doyle's Executive Residence. The conference is being held at the Concourse Hotel, located a block from the State Capitol and adjacent to Madison's famous State Street. Your weekend activities can include a morning at the Farmer's Market, a round of golf at UW's University Ridge golf course, shopping on State Street, or a tour of the UW Madison campus.

Please take a moment to review the agenda and registration information. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Laurie Schammel, at 608-224-4786, or email laurie.schammel@datcp.state.wi.us.
