The Honorable Cary G. Peterson

Cary G. Peterson was appointed Commissioner of Agriculture in January 1993. He has a long background in agriculture, being born and raised on the family farm and ranch and has operated his own farm and ranch for the past 35 years. He graduated from Utah State University. Major studies and continuing education in agricultural science, math, and vocal music. He has served in the state legislature for 20 years. He was serving as majority leader in the Senate at the time of his appointment as Commissioner of Agriculture. He has been actively involved in both the National and Western Councils of State Governments. On the National Council, he served on the executive board for several terms. On the Western Council, he has served as Chairman. He has always been involved in community and civic affairs and has received special recognition from a number of agricultural groups for his leadership. He and his wife, Ranee, have three children and nine grandchildren.
