The NASS Mountain Regional Office held a productive and successful Mid-Year Workshop on May 7-9, 2014 in Loveland, Colorado to prepare for the June Area Survey. There were about 40 NASDA enumerators and supervisors from Colorado and Wyoming who attended the training session.
NASDA’s NASS Program Director Charlie Ingram also participated in the workshop, along with Kevin Barnes, NASS HQ Director of Western Field Operations. The NASS Mountain Regional Team who attended included RFO Director Bill Meyer, Deputies Leslee Lohrenz and Roger Ott, WY State Statistician Rhonda Brandt, CO Survey Coordinator Paul Post and WY Survvey Coordinator Nancy Hussey. The Mountain Region Budget and Accounting Technicians Jeff Claxton and Michele Burger also participated to review administrative and personnel procedures.
Economic data and statistics on rural America are becoming increasingly important and the June Area Survey plays a critical role in this area. It is one of the largest annual NASS survey projects. The June Survey is designed to account for every acre of land, all agricultural activities, and land uses within segment boundaries. The survey data is used to make reliable estimates of crop acreages, grain stocks, livestock inventories (including cattle, hogs, poultry and sheep), land values, cash rents and other farm numbers. The diverse range of these survey items is used for future surveys.
