2014 Northeastern Regional Mid-Year Workshop for PA, MD, DE, NJ

News Article -

The NASS Northeastern Regional Office held a productive and successful Mid-Year Workshop in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on May 14-15, 2014 for Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey to prepare for the June Area Survey.

There were almost 80 NASDA Supervisors and Enumerators who attended the workshop, including 23 enumerators from Maryland and Delaware, 38 enumerators from Pennsylvania, and 17 from New Jersey. The NASDA Team who participated in the training session were NASS Program Director Charlie Ingram, Communications Director Amanda Bryant, and Finance Director Martha Van Dale. They provided updates on several NASDA efforts to enhance the NASDA-NASS partnership, including expanded website capabilities and “green” paperless efficiencies with the electronic timesheet and payroll system.

The NASS Northeastern Regional Team did a great job coordinating the workshop activities and included RFO Director King Whetstone, Deputies Bob McEwen and Kevin Pautler, MD State Stat Dale Hawks, NJ Survey Coordinator Clare Burger, PA Survey Coordinator Sherry Deane, and MD/DE Survey Coordinator Julia Klapproth.

A highlight of the workshop was an Awards Luncheon on May 14. Northeast Regional Office Director King Whetstone and NASDA’s Charlie Ingram presented a number of awards to enumerators to recognize their dedicated service, accomplishments, and hard work in the collection of agricultural data collection in their states.

The June Area Survey is one of the largest annual NASS survey projects and is designed to account for every acre of land, all agricultural activities, and land uses within segment boundaries. The wide range of crop, livestock, and economic information from this survey and subsequent NASS reports contribute to a stable economic climate, and helps producers make production, marketing, and distribution decisions. As with all NASS surveys, information provided by respondents is confidential by law. NASS safeguards the confidentiality of all responses and publishes only state and national level estimates, ensuring that no individual operation or producer can be identified.
