The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) Foundation is pleased to announce Dr. Lisa Benson as Executive Director. Created in 1981, the NASDA Foundation advances agriculture and cultivates other societal benefits by empowering state departments of agriculture. Dr. Benson is the Foundation’s first Executive Director and will lead the reinvigorated Foundation with a new mission and new strategic plan.
“I am thrilled for the opportunity to apply my agricultural expertise and national program and partnership experience to the Foundation as we step out to become an impactful national organization,” said Dr. Benson. “The Foundation will be the leading entity assisting the state departments of agriculture to fine-tune and empower their voices as the chief regulators and advocates of agriculture in the United States.”
Prior to joining the NASDA Foundation, Dr. Benson was the Director of Rural Development for the American Farm Bureau Federation where she developed and led the Rural Entrepreneurship Initiative which served over 1,000 entrepreneurs in 37 states. Dr. Benson also worked as a Communications Manager at the United Fresh Produce Association. Dr. Benson achieved her Doctor of Philosophy from Virginia Tech’s Agricultural and Extension Education Department and her Master of Science in Agricultural Education and Communication from the University of Florida.
