Biography

Jim Reese was appointed to the position of Secretary of Agriculture by Governor Mary Fallin and has been serving in that capacity since January 11, 2011.

Jim was raised on a Wheat and Dairy farm in North Central Oklahoma where he continues to farm today. He and his wife, Margaret, have four children. He attended Deer Creek-Lamont High School, Northern Oklahoma College and Oklahoma State University and received a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology.

In 1986 he was elected to the House of Representatives where he served for 15 years. While serving in the state legislature he was selected by the George W. Bush administration to serve as State Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency for eight years. He was then chosen by House Speaker Chris Benge to serve as Policy Advisor to the Speaker of the House.

Secretary Reese is a long time agricultural and rural advocate and feels that Oklahoma agriculture is a vital part of Oklahoma’s recovering economy.
