The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry exists to protect, promote and regulate the agricultural resources of the state of Oklahoma. Under the guidance of the Oklahoma State Board of Agriculture, the department ensures food safety, protects herd health, fosters new markets for Oklahoma’s agricultural and natural products, manages licensing and regulation and represents the agriculture industry on the Governor’s Cabinet. In Oklahoma, the Secretary of Agriculture is appointed by the Governor. She is responsible for the administration and enforcement of various agricultural state laws and is one of the principle spokespersons for Oklahoma farm products and producers. As President of the Board of Agriculture and Oklahoma Commissioner of Agriculture, the secretary serves on the Oklahoma State University A&M Board of Regents, the School Land Commission, the State Board of Equalization and the Environment Sub-cabinet.
