“Educate before – and while – you regulate,” is a guiding principle for the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture’s (NASDA) efforts to help farmers achieve a high level of compliance with the Produce Safety Rule of FSMA. The On Farm Readiness Review (OFRR) process was developed by a team comprised of NASDA, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Cooperative Extension food safety leaders for this purpose. The OFRR process is designed to foster a dialogue among farmers, regulators and educators about the requirements of the Produce Safety Rule – a visual assessment of the farm to aid the likelihood the farm is in compliance with FSMA. An OFRR is voluntary, confidential and free to growers regardless of their size.
Seeing is believing. Therefore, we’d like to invite you, as a valued stakeholder, to a live demonstration of an OFRR in North Carolina. We will begin on August 14 at 2PM with background and overview followed by a reception hosted by the North Carolina Farm Bureau. On the morning of the 15th, we will travel to a farm to shadow experienced assessors as they demonstrate the process of conducting an OFRR (transportation will be provided). Afterwards, we will have lunch and a feedback session to answer questions and accept suggestions, ending approximately 4PM.
The deadline to register is August 9 so that we may have an accurate count for meals and transportation. This event is closed to invitees only.
