The Land of 10,000 Lakes

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture looks forward to seeing you at the COSDA Annual Meeting September 29 – October 2, 2019 in Minneapolis. We’re excited to showcase the best in food and agriculture our state has to offer. Minnesota’s ag sector is an economic powerhouse valued at $112 billion. Our 73,400 farms produce a diverse number of commodities. We grow a lot of corn, soybeans, sugar beets, turkeys, and hogs, but who knew we also process more sweet corn and green peas than any other state? Ho! Ho! Ho! Green Giant.

Minnesota is also known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes and the headwaters of the Mighty Mississippi. We hope you’ll find time to visit at least one body of water during your visit or plan a trip to see the LARGEST BALL OF TWINE in the world.

Minnesota is home to a few other large agriculture-related success stories – Cargill, Land O Lakes (also fondly referred to as LOL), CHS, and General Mills, among others. We’re proud to say that seven of the state’s 19 Fortune 500 companies are in the ag and food industry, and we have the largest co-op network in the country.

Minneapolis was known as the “Flour Milling Capital of the World” for more than 50 years and our state’s history of innovation in food and agriculture includes the first concrete grain elevator, freight cooling system, just-add-water cake mixes, and microwavable popcorn and pizza!

If you haven’t traveled to the Bold North before, September is a good month to see spectacular fall colors and harvest in full swing. See you in September at COSDA 2019!
