Position Description

Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

This position can be located in the Sparks, Elko, or Las Vegas offices and oversees the state noxious weed, weed free, bio control, and rangeland health programs providing critical educational, outreach and enforcement services. This includes managing federal grants for treatment projects and overseeing program specific staff. This position coordinates with local governments as well as state, federal, and tribal partners. This position supervises and coordinates the work of seasonal and technical staff involved in enforcement, field inspections and surveys, biocontrol agent monitoring, and weed free certification. Requires a high degree of travel across the state, may require working occasional evenings and weekends. Teleworking options may be available, however work will be required to be completed from the office as well.
