Dear Majority Leader McConnell, Senator Schumer, Speaker Ryan, and Minority Leader Pelosi:

Our nation’s farmers have not enjoyed the economic recovery that many Americans have experienced the past five years. Low commodity prices, uncertainty in global markets, and erratic weather cycles have created a strain in our nation’s rural communities. We need to grow our rural economy by building demand for our agricultural products at the same time that we offer a lifeline to those farmers struggling to weather tough economic times. Fortunately, you can help.

Attached please find a letter that we sent this week to the Chairman and Ranking Members of the Senate and House Agriculture Committees asking them to quickly resolve the remaining differences between the House and Senate versions of the farm bill. We appreciate the leadership of these Members and know that the Conference Committee is working hard to resolve differences between the two bills. We need your support, however, to ensure that a bill can be considered and approved by both chambers yet this year.

To ensure the financial security of rural America, we ask each of you to work with your respective Agriculture Committee leaders to ensure completion, consideration, and passage of a new farm bill in the closing days of the 115th Congress.
