The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry is seeking applicants for the open position of Executive Director of Maine Harness Racing Commission. The position is located in Augusta, Maine, and applications are being accepted until April 28, 2022.

This is executive work which includes developing and implementing policies intended to ensure the long-term economic viability of harness racing in the state, and compliance with the Maine Harness Racing statute through an appointed commission. The Maine Harness Racing Commission (MHRC) regulates and promotes the harness racing industry in the state. MHRC ensures that the horses racing in events are chemical-free and that a fair and equitable playing field is provided in the industry. The Executive Director engages in a series of oversight and support activities intended to ensure the integrity of the sport, promote fairness and participation, and strengthen the industry. The position provides strategic assistance and guidance to the MHRC to fulfill its statutory obligations. The position establishes the agenda for the commission, supervises staff, processes appeals, administers the collection and distribution of revenues, develops and manages the budget, develops policy and directs rulemaking, enforces rules and statutes relative to racing and wagering, investigates violations, and helps support promotional efforts for the industry.
