Following today’s entry-into-force of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement NASDA CEO Dr. Barb Glenn issued the following statement:
“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in our trading relationship with our North American neighbors. From increased market access to enhanced regulatory standards, the USMCA delivers critical updates that will pay dividends for American food, agriculture and forestry producers.
USMCA implementation could not have come at a more needed time. Maintaining open markets is essential as the U.S., Canada and Mexico continue to recover from the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. NASDA members are committed to working closely with our federal partners to ensure USMCA is fully implemented and enforced.”
Background
NASDA has advocated for an updated trade agreement with Canada and Mexico throughout the USMCA negotiation and ratification process. Most recently, in September 2019, NASDA members urged Congress to approve the USMCA expeditiously.
NASDA members and their counterparts from Canada and Mexico have also advocated for the USMCA since the signing of a tri-lateral statement during the 2017 Tri-National Accord. The U.S. will host the 2020 Tri-National Accord and celebrate progress made through the USMCA.
