Southern Plains Region Assists with Rice Education Tent

News Article -

The 45th annual Texas Rice Festival was held October 1 - 5, 2014 in Winnie, Texas. The Texas Rice Festival is an annual harvest celebration held the first weekend of October. The festival was created in 1969 to honor rice farming, which makes a major economic contribution to this region of Southeast Texas. The attendance for this five day event, which includes live entertainment, parades, carnival, livestock show, horse show, bbq cook-off, volleyball tournament, rice cooking contest, and an antique car show, is around 75,000.

NASDA Field Supervisor Cathy Reagan and a few of her staff have assisted the Southern Plains Regional Office with a booth in the Rice Education Tent for a number of years. Their presence and expertise has had a positive impact on promoting NASS to farmers in this area, especially rice producers.
