About:

Director Miyamoto’s career has been dedicated to agriculture with a focus on policy and helping farmers and ranchers thrive. A Wyoming native with experience at the state and federal levels, Doug provides a deep and varied skill set and knowledge base of agriculture to the Wyoming Department of Agriculture (WDA) and Wyoming citizens. Director Miyamoto has served as Director of WDA since 2015.  Director Miyamoto has served in multiple roles at the national and regional levels as well and currently serves as President of NASDA.

Prior to becoming Director of the WDA, Doug served as the CEO of the Wyoming Livestock Board where he helped protect Wyoming’s livestock industry through protecting livestock health and verifying livestock ownership. He also served as the Deputy Director of the WDA where he oversaw the day to day operations of the WDA and guided the department through several important programs and difficult issues.

In his professional career, Doug has worked as the NRCS Liaison to the Western Governors’ Association, the NRCS Liaison to the Wyoming Association of Conservation Districts, a NRCS Rangeland Management Specialist, a Research Assistant in Rangeland Ecology at the University of Wyoming, and a Water Rights Analyst with the Wyoming State Engineer’s Office.

Miyamoto earned a Master’s Degree in Rangeland Ecology with an emphasis in Soil Science and a Bachelor’s Degree in Range Management/Biology from the University of Wyoming and has also published two peer-reviewed articles on the long-term effects of rangeland renovation on soil quality and carbon sequestration.
