Biography

Jim Melvin joined NASDA in September 2017. During his time with NASDA, he has served as the Produce Safety Project Manager for the NASDA FDA Produce Safety Cooperative Agreement and now serves as the produce safety program manager. Jim had previously served in various positions in government and industry including as an Assistant Director for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, Food and Drug Production Division (retired), as plant manager at Mission Foods and Perdue Farms, and as a Production Line Manager for Kellogg’s Snacks. Jim earned a BS in Textile Technology from North Carolina State University, an MBA from Campbell University, and a Master of Accounting degree from Strayer University. Professionally, he is a Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) and a Certified Food Safety and Quality Auditor (CFSQA). Jim was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he has spent all his life except for one year. In his free time, Jim enjoys woodworking, running and being a grandfather to three grandchildren.
