Biography

BeckyGarrisonWarfel joined NASDA in September 2023. In this role, she leads federal advocacy for state departments of agriculture, focusing on food safety, nutrition policy and regional food systems resiliency. At the intersection of agriculture and food policy, she champions bipartisan, evidence-based policies that enhance farm viability, reduce food waste, improve economic stability and expands opportunities for local and regional food procurement and distribution.

Becky previously served as director of domestic marketing for USA Pulses, where she led initiatives to increase U.S. pulse consumption and expand new market opportunities for farmers. Becky brings expertise across the entire food system – from agricultural inputs and farm production, to food science and food safety, to market dynamics and consumer behavior –  driving practical, research-informed policy solutions.

Becky is a registered dietitian nutritionist and earned her degree in nutrition and dietetics in 2017 from the University of Idaho. She completed both her clinical and foodservice dietetic internships with the Mann-Grandstaff Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She also worked for the University of Idaho Extension’s SNAP-Ed program, working with school districts and food banks to drive consumer behavior change in low income and rural populations. Becky will be completing her Master’s in Public Administration in 2026, strengthening her ability to translate complex agricultural and public health policies into actionable programs at federal, state and local levels. Her academic and professional training spans nutrition science, medical nutrition therapy, public and community health, federal procurement, program policy and evaluation, food systems management, and leadership in public administration.

Becky is from Sandpoint, Idaho, and enjoys cooking, kayaking and van trips with her husband and their dog, Cowboy.
