Leveraging Trade Shows and Trade Missions: NASDA’s Integrated Approach to Global Market Expansion
Promoting agriculture at home and abroad is a primary responsibility for state departments of agriculture. The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture creates a platform to support its members in engaging in activities related to strengthening the competitiveness of U.S. agriculture, expanding market access and promoting U.S. agricultural products globally through a uniquely integrated strategy that combines trade shows and trade missions. This dual approach effectively connects U.S. farmers and food and beverage producers with international buyers, government representatives and industry partners, fostering robust relationships that propel U.S. agriculture into new and existing global markets. NASDA Trade Shows
NASDA’s cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service, in force since 1982, is designed to help U.S. food product companies source export opportunities. As a result of this partnership, NASDA produced more than 50 trade show events in the U.S. and assisted with scores of U.S. pavilions in events outside the U.S.

NASDA Trade Missions
Emerging Markets Program
In 2022, NASDA was awarded $925,000 through USDA FAS Emerging Markets Program. Through this program, NASDA promotes exports of U.S. agricultural products to developing countries with strong growth potential.
NASDA RAPP Trade Missions
In May 2024, NASDA received USDA FAS Regional Agricultural Promotion Program funding to focus on Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, the United Kingdom and the EU. RAPP aims to diversify and expand market opportunities for U.S. food and agricultural products beyond the traditional top customers. Gaining market share in these diverse and dynamic markets will help U.S. exporters better weather global shocks and better compete in an increasingly volatile global marketplace. NASDA will use these funds to continue efforts initiated through the Emerging Markets Program with expanded markets.

Marketing and International Trade Policy
Promoting agriculture at home and abroad is a primary responsibility for state departments of agriculture. To that end, the NASDA policy team is actively engaged on matters related to domestic marketing and promotion programs, the competitiveness of specialty crops, international trade agreements, programs to assist in the expansion of international markets for U.S. agricultural products, harmonization of technical standards, inspection and regulatory programs, and programs to provide food aid.
