Biography
Derrek Miller joined NASDA in January 2025. In his role as associate director of international trade outreach, Derrek supports stakeholder outreach, trade shows and mission coordination, federal compliance and financial reporting, and marketing and communication strategies for NASDA’s international trade initiatives. Derrek previously served as the executive director of a culinary nonprofit, where he led strategic initiatives to promote local food systems, expanded farm-to-school programs, developed an award-winning food and beverage initiative for United Airlines’ Polaris program and coordinated disaster relief responses in collaboration with World Central Kitchen.
Earlier in his career, Derrek held roles at the National Restaurant Association, where he worked closely with NASDA’s international trade program team and managed industry relations, marketing, communications and large-scale events, including chef and awards programs. He also worked at the U.S. Department of State Foreign Press Center Midwest affiliate office, where he assisted international journalists develop a deeper understanding of U.S. policy, society and values through programs connecting them with authoritative American information sources. Additionally, he served as an assistant press secretary for the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing communications and journalism from Columbia College Chicago and an associate’s degree in business administration from College of DuPage. He currently lives in the Reno-Tahoe area, enjoys outdoor activities, restaurants and traveling with his family.
