Biography

Janna Spruill joined NASDA in October 2021. Janna is the project manager for the NASDA Foundation’s Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers Access to Capital Program, partnering with the Council of Development Finance Agencies (CDFA), as well as for the newly awarded USDA Northeast Regional Food Business Center cooperative agreement. Janna also oversaw the USDA-AMS Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) cooperative agreement which focused on providing GAP education and outreach to socially disadvantaged and historically underserved growers. She was formerly a food regulator and compliance administrator with the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Food and Drug Protection Division. During that time, she conducted food safety inspections of low and high-risk manufacturers, managed the FDA Rapid Response Team grant, conducted shell egg inspections under FDA’s Egg Safety Rule, and lead industry and community outreach for shell egg and rabbit processing programs. Janna earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Poultry Science from North Carolina State University, with Spanish and Food Safety minors. Janna is from North Carolina, but she and her family have called Virginia home for the last five years. Janna enjoys watching her three boys compete in soccer and XC/track events. She and her dogs, Roxie and Penny, try to find balance in her male-dominated household.
