Q: Tell us about your agricultural operation, your background and how you got started in agriculture.
I raise mini highland cattle, I got started on livestock years ago. It all started when I would spend the summer at my aunt and uncles place every summer.
Q: What does working in agriculture, and specifically being a woman in agriculture, mean to you?
Agriculture means the world to me! As a woman it’s not easy cause the cowboys look down on you and when you ask for help they turn there nose up and act like they are better then you. So I work hard, start early and end late.
Q: What do you wish the next generation of women in agriculture would know about your work? What advice would you give them?
Don’t depend on others to help you, learn as much as you can while you are young.
Q: Have you had access to formal education or informal training programs to help you grow your operation?
Yes cowgirl confident out of Afton Oklahoma is wonderful for woman farmers/ranchers learning.
Q: What would make it easier for women in agriculture to access the capital they need?
Loans and grants to help us grow.
Q: Describe a specific challenge you faced and how you overcame it.
Pulling calves is hard for one person to handle on your own so it’s nice to have someone to call that will drop anything to help you.
