I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve as the Communications Intern with NASDA this summer and fall. This experience provided invaluable insight into the agriculture and natural resources sectors and the critical role NASDA plays in advancing policies that support state departments of agriculture, farmers, ranchers and rural communities nationwide.

NASDA’s mission to enhance food and agricultural communities through sound public policy, partnerships and communication was evident throughout my internship. I gained a deeper understanding of how NASDA works collaboratively with state and federal partners to address key issues impacting agriculture, including food systems, environmental stewardship and sustainable resource management. This exposure strengthened my appreciation for the importance of coordinated, state-led policy solutions.

In my role as a communications intern, I supported NASDA’s efforts to clearly and effectively communicate its priorities, initiatives and policy positions. Through writing, editing and digital communications, I helped translate complex policy topics into accessible messaging for diverse audiences. This experience strengthened my communication skills while highlighting the essential role strategic communications play in advancing NASDA’s mission and supporting state departments of agriculture.

I am grateful for the mentorship, guidance and hands-on experience I received during my time at NASDA. I look forward to applying what I have learned as I continue my academic and professional journey, and I am thankful to have been part of an organization so dedicated to supporting agriculture and natural resources.
