In January 2025, Wm. Donald Clifton II was appointed by Governor Matthew S. Meyer as Delaware’s Secretary of Agriculture. Clifton most recently served as Executive Director of the Delaware Farm Bureau. Previously, Clifton served as the state executive director of the USDA Farm Service Agency under Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. He was a co-chair for the Agriculture and Biotechnology Committee of Governor Ruth Ann Minner’s Strategic Economic Council. He also was appointed to serve on the Governor’s Energy Advisory Council (GEAC) by Governor John Carney.

The Clifton family farm in Sussex County has produced grains, soybeans, beef, and processing vegetables for four generations. Don Clifton is a lifelong farmer and steward of the land with a practical commitment to agriculture’s environmental legacy.
