The Delaware Department of Agriculture’s mission is to sustain and promote the viability of food, fiber and agricultural industries in Delaware through quality services that protect and enhance the environment, health and welfare of the general public.

Delaware agriculture takes up 39 percent of the state’s land. Broilers are Delaware’s top commodity, with an annual aggregate output of $3.2 billion, supporting 13,400 jobs. Sussex County, the birthplace of the nation’s broiler chicken industry, ranks No. 1 in the United States for broiler production with more than 200 million birds each year.

Numerous department divisions serve the state’s agricultural needs, including Aglands Planning and Preservation, Agriculture Compliance, Delaware Standardbred Breeders’ Fund, Food Products Inspection, Delaware Forest Service, Delaware Harness Racing Commission, Communications and Marketing, Nutrient Management, Pesticides Management, Plant Industries, Poultry & Animal Health, Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission and Weights & Measures.
